PORT NECHES — The Port Neches Independent School District Board approved a budget amendment to purchase video and sound equipment to welcome football fans to The Reservation.

Troy Burns of Fair-Play Scoreboards outlined the TV-quality video screen and sound with a barely-noticable delay that will come with $685,520 in improvements. The district will sell advertisement that will eventually pay for the sign. Platinum sponsors will pay $20,000 a year for 10 years. Three businesses have already approached the district to inquire about platinum, gold and silver sponsorships.

After Hurricane Rita, the district purchased a Fair-Play board. Now that the stadium is being upgraded, the improvements will make the board stand out even more so, but in a new location across the field.

The board approved the purchase at Tuesday’s meeting. In her superintendent’s report, Dr. Lani Randall showed pictures of district progress and reported that at the stadium, end zone bleachers have been moved to the tennis court.

“A lot has taken place over the past week,” Randall said. “Everyone’s working great as a team together.”

She also showed the new parking lot at the cosmetology lab.

The board approved the 2008-2009 school calendar and the first reading of revisions to policies on personnel management and student rights and responsibilities.

It's probably a different manufacturer. Regardless, it will be nice despite what anyone else has. I'm hoping it will be similar to the Rutger's University scoreboard that's in the brochure. The Copperas Cove board is also nice.

This is what it reads in the board meeting agenda.

The cost includes the new windstorm rated structure, a 16’6” High x 27’ Wide video display with 10MM resolution, 3 cameras and computer equipment with training, and an upgrade to our existingsound system.

That's huge.

I found the PA News article about the Nederland video board and it's 14' x 19'. Both are nice size for a high school stadium.

Not sure if this the actual product that Fair-Play is providing for Indian Stadium, but it matches the specs mentioned (10mm) and Barco is the supplier for Fair-Play scoreboards. Barco is world-class leader in LED technology. Hope that's what they're buying.

That vendor installs Barco video boards as described in the links above. 4.4 Trillion colors. Awesome.

For an idea of what the video board will look like, the HD Barco board at Shotwell Stadium is 14'x24' compared to the 16.6'x27' board announced for Indian Stadium.

It should also provide a to way expand the journalism department into broadcast video (if they don't do that already). With three cameras , they could produce some good quality highlight film of each home game.

Has anyone heard how the advertising sales are going for the new scoreboard? Channel 7 shows only three spots sold but I have a feeling that clip does not get updated.

The PNGISD channel now shows only seven spots remaining on the scoreboard for ads. Things are looking good.

There's a lot of community concern with the scoreboard expenditure. And it's serving as political ammo as well.

But long term it's a win-win for the community and the advertisers. It WILL pay for itself and will help entice some area playoff games each playoff season. That's more money in the coffers.

Shorter term the advertisers are guaranteed a captive audience of 50,000+ fans per season between all the sporting events. And the kids and fans have a great addition to the stadium.

And I'm betting the schools will be taken care of as rightfully expected by the taxpayers. Maybe I'm too positive but that's the way I see it.

just out of curiosity, and maybe someone has already answered this and I missed it..... what happened to the scoreboard they took down? Is it able to be recycled for another school? Maybe painted and re-worded and used for baseball?

My understanding is it's being moved to the other end of the stadium. They're just adding a full color video board to the top and a small amber board to the bottom. And of course the structure to hold it and the advertising signs.

thanks...I had read at one time somewhere on one of these topics that we were just discarding what Total had given us. I may have also misread it. But it is good to know that we are still using it and just adding to it.

The small amber board was also part of the previous scoreboard. It is all being reused. If you look at the picture I posted, you can pick out the old parts of it.

Drove by today and they are starting to put the old part of the new scoreboard up. Also saw some stirrings on the home side of the stadium couldn't tell what, but it looked like they are setting some steel maybe for the base of the new stands. Also field was completely covered in what looked like a white rock like substance, things are starting to move.

No, does that help with drainage or something?
